Before: The one-way-in bungalow. After: Existing house lifted, new porous first floor with outdoor rooms.
Below: neighborly arbors
A 1917 one story bungalow is lifted to second-floor stature, allowing the creation of a new first floor, with flowing, open spaces directly connected to the landscape. At long last , this merchant-built craftsman home offers its denizens an indoor-outdoor lifestyle appropriate to the climate and natural beauty of the Bay Area. The work includes the addition of a main level bedroom suite for an aging parent, who will therefore have easy access to the cooking and social areas of the residence. The lifted 2-bedroom house is modified to include a master bedroom suite, a laundry room, and a spare bedroom/sewing room with a view of Mount Tamalpais. A new garden of native plantings elaborates on the idea that this is a California house coming home for the first time.
